How Best Ball Challenge works

Free to play. The prize money is play money: it ranks teams and is never paid out.

The game in 30 seconds

1Pick four golfersTheir prices must add up to 50.0 or less.
2Best ball every holeYour lowest score on each hole counts.
3Win prize moneyEvery team is paid by finishing place.
4Win the seasonMost money across the season takes the title.

Your team

  • One account, one team. Pick 4 golfers from the event's field.
  • Each golfer has a price. Your four must cost 50.0 or less.
  • Change your team as often as you like until lineups lock at the first tee time of round 1.
  • After lock, every team is public, and there are no replacements, even if a golfer withdraws.

Scoring an event

On every hole, the best score among your four golfers counts. Add up the counted holes and compare with par: that is your team score. Lowest wins.

  • Teams level on score share the position (T3, T3, 5).
  • The cut rule: a team with no golfers left after the cut cannot finish first. It ranks below every team that still has one.
  • Every team's scorecard is public once lineups lock, so anyone can check any result.

Prize money

Every team in an event wins money, on a curve shaped like a tour payout. First always pays $1,000,000, whatever the field size. Each place pays $1,000,000 divided by the place to the power 0.8, so a bigger field adds places below and never shrinks the prizes above.

PlacePrize
1st$1,000,000
2nd$574,300
3rd$415,200
4th$329,900
8th$189,500
25th$76,100
  • Ties add up the prizes for the places they cover and split them evenly: two teams tied for 2nd get $494,800 each.
  • Didn't enter (DNS on the standings): $0. Even last place earns something, so showing up always pays.
  • During an event, money shows as projected from the current positions. It becomes final when the event does.

Elevated events

Bigger events multiply every prize in them.

Points

Each finish also earns points: the share of the field you finished at or above. A win is 100; last of 8 teams is 12.5. Points break ties in the standings, and will become the main ranking once the site has more players.

Seasons and segments

  • Main season: four segments, from the first event of the year to the TOUR Championship. Each segment has a winner, and the season has a champion.
  • Fall season: one segment after that, with its own champion. 2026 Fall runs from the India Championship to the RSM Classic.
  • Ties on money go to most points, then most event wins, then best single finish.

Golfers 3/4 on a team means three of its four golfers are still in the event.

Unusual events

  • Shortened by weather: the rounds played are scored, and the event counts in full.
  • More than one course: each golfer's card is compared with the par of the course they played that day.
  • Playoffs: ignored. Tied teams share the position.
  • Cancelled before play: doesn't count. No money, no points, no DNS.

Questions

When do scores update?

After each round finishes, usually that evening (ET). Each leaderboard shows when it was last updated.

Is any real money involved?

No. The game is free, and the prize money is play money used to rank teams. The site never takes entry fees or pays out.

What if I spot a wrong score?

Tell ryan@ryanregan.net. Corrected events are rescored, and the leaderboard shows which version of the results you're looking at.
